Text Box: John originally hails from Johannesburg, South Africa.
He immigrated to Canada with his wife Hermien and
children Claire and Stuart in 1988.

John’s interests are a diverse inspiration for his art; an avid gardener, wine enthusiast and cook; he approaches life with a sharp, inquisitive nature, and a healthy sense of humour. One has only to spend an afternoon in his garden to appreciate his flair for composition - and his culinary prowess.

His artistic influences include Surrealism, Cubism and Impressionism. John is inspired by masterful artists such as Salvador Dali, Claude Monet, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Joan Miro and Camille Pissarro. Architecture and design masters Antoni Gaudi and Josep Maria Jujol have also had a major influence on John’s style and subject matter.

John’s work explores different styles and media; his favorite form remains oil on canvas, He has also created sculpture in clay, sheet metal and wood. His unique portraits feature a wonderful cast of characters – most of who were inspired from family, friends and mythical characters. His unique landscapes and original compositions demonstrate his bold style - confident application of diverse and pure colour, expressing a range of emotions in each piece.

John continues to develop with each work, and when an idea captivates him, he will often generate a series of paintings to fully express his subject.
A series of John’s earlier works feature the Ndebele tribe of South Africa – one can almost hear the sounds and feel the warmth of his homeland resonating throughout those pieces. More recently, he has created a whimsical, bittersweet character in his Jester series.

Though John has been painting since boyhood, he has begun to attract considerable interest and recently decided to feature his works for public sale. We hope you will take an opportunity to explore his work online, and welcome your inquiries about specific pieces.
